@X04(@X0CE@X04)nter a Message - Function Help
@X04---------------------------------
@X0BSubcommands:@X0F @X03NONE
@X0ADescription:@X0F @X02Allows leaving a message to another person for them to read at a
@X0F @X02later date.
@X0AFull Screen
@X0AEditor: @X0F @X02After selecting (@X0CE@X02), you will be asked if you want to use the
@X0A @X0F @X02Full Screen Editor. To use the Full Screen Editor your software
@X0A @X0F @X02must be capable of interpreting ANSI cursor position commands.
@X0A @X0F @X02The default answer to the question will be @X0CNO@X02 if the system did
@X0A @X0F @X02not detect ANSI on your end or if you are in novice mode.
@X0AAddressing
@X0Athe Message:@X0F @X02Then you will be prompted to enter the name of the person the
@X0F @X02message is being addressed to. If the system operator has
@X0F @X02enabled message name verification on this system, the name
@X0F @X02entered will be checked against all names in the user's file to
@X0F @X02insure a proper match. If the user's name is not found, or the
@X0F @X02user is not registered in the same conference or board area where
@X0F @X02the message is being left, you will be advised of such to avoid
@X0F @X02leaving a message to a non-existent individual. However, a
@X0F @X0CSOUNDEX@X02 search to locate a name that sounds like what you entered
@X0F @X02can be performed or you can override the verification and answer
@X0F @X02(@X0CC@X02) to continue and use the name that you have entered which
@X0F @X02might be done to facilitate leaving a message to a group of
@X0F @X02people. By not entering a username at the "@X0CTo:@X02" prompt, it will
@X0F @X02automatically address the message to "@X0CALL@X02".
@X0F @X02Brackets will be displayed either above the line or surrounding
@X0F @X02the area on the screen in which you are allowed to enter text.
@X0AEntering a
@X0ASubject: @X0F @X02Next, up to a 25 character subject must be entered. If no
@X0A @X0F @X02subject is entered you will be returned to the main menu
@X0A @X0F @X02and command line prompt.
@X0AMessage
@X0ASecurity: @X0F @X02A security prompt will next appear looking something like this:
@X0F @X03Security: (G)roup, (R)eceiver, (S)ender, (H)elp, (N)one
@X0F @X04(@X0CN@X04)@X03one means that the message will be open for all to read.
@X0F @X04(@X0CG@X04)@X03roup allows assigning a password to the message which
@X0F @X03only other callers who know the common password will be
@X0F @X03allowed to read the message.
@X0F @X04(@X0CR@X04)@X03eceiver makes the message private to all except you - the
@X0F @X04 @X03person leaving it - and the person to whom it is addressed.
@X0F @X04(@X0CS@X04)@X03ender allows you to assign a password to the message so
@X0F @X04 @X03that only you can kill it later. This prevents the other
@X0F @X03person to whom the message is addressed from killing it.
@X0F @X02Note that you can @X0CNOT@X02 assign (@X0CR@X02)eceiver protection to a message
@X0F @X02which has been addressed to ALL.
@X0AAll Messages
@X0APrivate? @X0F @X02A message base can be set up such that all messages are initial
@X0A @X0F @X02flagged as private. In this case the above security prompt is
@X0A @X0F @X02skipped and the message will be saved using (R)eceiver security
@X0A @X0F @X02so that only you and the person to whom the message is addressed
@X0A @X0F @X02can read it.
@X0AEntering a
@X0AMessage: @X0F @X02After completing the above steps, you can enter your text. Each
@X0A @X0F @X02line you enter will be preceeded by it's line number. Up to 72
@X0F @X02characters per line is allowed. Typing beyond the 72 character
@X0F @X02limit will cause your text to automatically "word-wrap" down to
@X0F @X02the next line.
@X0AExiting the
@X0AEditor: @X0F @X02There are two modes in which text can be entered which you will
@X0F @X02have already chosen by the time you get to the editor. One of
@X0F @X02them is the Line Editor mode where only one line at a time can
@X0F @X02be entered or edited and the other is Full Screen Editor mode
@X0F @X02in which the entire screen is used as the workspace for message
@X0F @X02entry.
@X0F @X02To exit the Line Editor, press (@X0CENTER@X02) alone on a blank line.
@X0F @X02To exit the Full Screen Editor, press (@X0CESC@X02) or (@X0CCtrl-U@X02).
@X0F @X02After you exit the Line Editor or the Full Screen Editor you will
@X0F @X02be prompted for message completion subcommands as described
@X0F @X02below:
@X0CMessage Completion Subcommands
@X04------------------------------
@X03A)brt,C)ont,D)el,E)dit,F)ullScr,H)elp,I)nsert,L)ist,Q)uote,S)ave,U)pldMsg

@X0F @X04(@X0CD@X04)@X03el allows you to delete a line of text from the message.
@X0F @X04(@X0CE@X04)@X03dit allows you to edit a line of text.
@X0F @X04(@X0CF@X04)@X03ull allows you to continue using the Full Screen Editor.
@X0F @X04(@X0CH@X04)@X03elp displays this Help file.

@X0F @X04(@X0CL@X04)@X03ist relists your text entry so far to the screen.
@X0F @X04(@X0CQ@X04)@X03uote allows you to quote a portion of the replied-to message.

@X0F @X04(@X0CSN@X04)@X03 save your message, skip redisplay of replied to message
@X0F @X0ANote: The format to (@X0CE@X0A)dit a line of text is:
@X0F @X0Cold text;new text
@X0F @X03where the "@X0Cold text@X03" is the text you wish to replace, followed by
@X0F @X03a "@X0C;@X03" followed by the new text. The old text search is case
@X0F @X03sensitive - so capital letters must match exactly. If your new
@X0F @X03text causes that line to exceed 72 characters, the characters
@X0F @X03beyond 72 will be truncated from the line.
@X02When "@X0Cuploading@X02" Ascii text to the message base, insure your text lines are 72
characters or less in length.
Note: while in the full screen editor you can press @X0CCTRL-Z@X02 to get help on the
editing keys available in the full screen editor.
